    Die dokumentarische Fiktion erzählt mit grell-bunten 8mm- Amateurfilmaufnahmen eine Familiengeschichte, die sich über die USA und Deutschland bis nach Ex-Jugoslawien ausbreitet. Das grobkörnige Filmmaterial wurde in den 1960er und 70er Jahren nur sparsam eingesetzt – ohne Autofokus und Mikrofon, in einer Ära vor Home-Video und Internet.
Thomas Martius installiert den dreiteiligen Film in der Aula, mit durchscheinenden Projektionen auf Gaze. Zusammen mit Avataren und einer Kinotherapeutin hilft er Selma, ihren Vater zu suchen – und vielleicht sich selbst zu finden.

    Incorporating vivid, amateur 8mm film footage, the documentary fiction traces a family story that spans from the USA and Germany to the former Yugoslavia. The grainy Super 8 material was filmed sparingly in the 1960s and 70s—without autofocus and microphones, in an era before home video and the internet.
Thomas Martius installs the three-part film in the „Aula“ with translucent projections on gauze fabrics. He teams up with avatars and a cinema therapist to help Selma search for her father — and perhaps find herself.

    Thomas Martius

    Der Theater- und Filmemacher Thomas Martius arbeitet seit 1995 freischaffend, oft situationsspezifisch und multimedial. Er war u.a. Gast an Robert Wilsons Watermillcenter in New York, Fellow am Dora Maar House in Frankreich, Artist in Residence der Emily Harvey Foundation in Venedig. Seine dokumentarischen Fiktionen sind große und unterhaltsame Erzählungen, in denen er manchmal auch selbst auftritt. Thomas arbeitet in Teams. Und in kontinuierlicher Zusammenarbeit.

    Theater and film maker Thomas Martius has been working as a freelancer since 1995, often in situation-specific and multimedia projects. He has been a guest at Robert Wilson’s Watermill Center in New York, a fellow at the Dora Maar House in France, and artist in residence at the Emily Harvey Foundation in Venice, among others. His documentary fictions are grand and entertaining narratives in which he sometimes makes an appearance himself. He works in teams. And in continuous collaboration.
